Aboriginal People’s Organizations
- Healing Our Spirit is British Columbia’s provincial Aboriginal AIDS service organization.
- Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network (CAAN) is a national coalition of individuals and organizations, which provides leadership, support, and advocacy for Aboriginal people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
- Chee Mamuk provides culturally appropriate on-site community based HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infection (STI) education and training to Aboriginal communities.
- Okanagan Aboriginal AIDS Society provides services and culturally sensitive HIV/AIDS resources for people with Aboriginal ancestry in the Okanagan Valley.
- Red Road HIV/AIDS Network is the network of BC Aboriginal AIDS service organizations and AIDS service organizations with Aboriginal programming, as well as Aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS.
- Vancouver Native Health Society [http://www.vnhs.net/] works to improve and promote the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of aboriginal individuals residing in Greater Vancouver.
- BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres [http://www.bcaafc.com/] is an umbrella organization for British Columbia’s Aboriginal Friendship Centres. They have a listing of Friendship Centres [http://www.bcaafc.com/content/view/15/278/] throughout the province.
HIV/AIDS Organizations for Children and Youth
- Camp Moomba is a summer camp program for kids age 6-17 who are living with or affected by HIV. The camp is operated by Western Canadian Pediatric AIDS Society, who cover all camp and transportation costs for participants, at no cost to families.
- The Hummingbird Kids Society connects families and children affected by HIV/AIDS to support, services and opportunities.
- YouthCO AIDS Society is a youth-driven organization leading the HIV and HepC movement through peer education, support and leadership for youth ages 15-29.
HIV and Pregnancy
- Oak Tree Clinic provides HIV focused care and specialized prenatal care for women with HIV and their families in British Columbia.
- Motherisk is the online Canadian source for information on the safety of medications, products and everyday exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
International HIV/AIDS and Women’s Organizations
Legal Information
- AIDSLEX (the AIDS and Law Exchange) is a tool for anyone who seeks quick and easy access to a wide range of resources on HIV, human rights and the law.
- The Legal Services Society (LSS) is the organization that provides legal aid in BC, making representation by lawyer, legal advice and legal information available to all British Columbians.
- Pivot Legal Society is a non-profit legal advocacy organization located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Housing Support
- The BC Ministry for Community Services maintains a list of Transition Houses with contact information.
- McLaren Housing Society is a non-profit organization that provides safe, affordable housing to men, women and families who live with HIV/AIDS, are in financial need and yet are able to live independently.
- Wings Housing Society administers a 31-suite apartment building and a portable subsidy housing program for people living with HIV/AIDS.
- The Downtown Eastside Residents’ Association (DERA) works hard for decent, secure, affordable housing, jobs, livable incomes, community and recreational facilities, park space, safer streets, and community-based neighbourhood planning in the Downtown Eastside.
